Having conversations with your manager, team leader, or colleagues
Go with a demand, not a request.
The demand is being okay with the fact that you may get a “no” and that you may be able to co-create the solution. When we go into conversations with a request, it’s a very “yes” or “no”. If we don’t get the answer, then we’re very unhappy.
There’s a thing in leadership that we say: It’s your responsibility to express your needs, but it’s not up to you to expect it to be met.
If you remove the pressure from having to have the answer that you want, then ask yourself: Who do you need to speak with?
