Filipinos have a long history in the United States. They have led movements, confronted injustices, and have created world-shaking ideas.
- People in the Philippines were under Spain and landed in California as part of the Spanish galleons.
- The Philippine-American War occurred when the U.S. took possession of the Philippines.
- In 1906 Filipinos migrated to Hawaii to work in sugar plantations and came to the West coast in the 1920s.
- As a colony, the Philippines allied with the U.S. in WW2.
- In the 60s, Filipinos fought for equality alongside Black power and Chicano movements.
- There are now more than four million Filipinos in the United States.
